CLUB BOURGAS REPORT

Rotary year 2003 - 2004
I. Club service
1. Creation of Family of Rotary Committee. The committee was established on
07.07.2003 with staff as follows: Chairman: Milena Ilcheva and members: Svetlana
Prodanova, Toni Kostova, Konstantin Ovcharov and Ivan Danev.
2. The other Club Committees are set up as follows: Club service Committee
including Attendance, Classification, Membership and membership development and
Rotarian information Committees; Vocational Service Committee, Community service
Committee and International Service Committee. In order to improve the club
activities, another committees were appointed as follows: Financial Committee,
Club Archive and Club History Committee and Project "Nadezhda Home for temporary
settling of children" Committee. Appointed were also Rotaract, Interact and
Rotary Foundation officers, Club accountant and auditor as well.
3. Preparation of 3 new Rotary Clubs: Tsarevo, Bourgas, Sozopol. In the
beginning of September the task forces to prepare the initiation of the new
Clubs were appointed. Atanas Sirekov as District Governor's special
representative for creation of a third Rotary Club in Bourgas prepared a CD with
educational materials for the new clubs. With the active support of sponsor Club
President Rumen Angelov in November 2003 the Provisional Rotary Club Bourgas-Primorie
was established. Its President is Todor Savov. This Club received the chart in
March 2004.
4. In August Club Secretary Atanas Sirekov prepared promotional CD about the
Club.
5. In August Club Secretary Atanas Sirekov downloaded all lectures (PowerPoint
Presentations) from Rotary University web site and started their translation in
Bulgarian. Up to now 10 presentations has been translated.
6. In July were carried out lectures to familiarize the Rotarians with RI and D
2480 structures as well as to represent the 2003/04 Theme and to find out
opportunities for it's implementation in life. Lecturers were Rumen Angelov,
Club President and Chairman of D2480 Rotaract an Interact Committee and Krasimir
Ganchev, Past President and ADG.
7. Rotarians participated actively in the festivity in connection with
presenting the Chart to Rotary Club Bourgas - Pirgos on 19.07.2003.
8. Preparation the visit of Kostas Kotsis, DG of D2480 in Bourgas. Participation
of most Rotarians, Rotaract and Interact Club members during the festivity
dinner on 14.09.2003 was assured. Board members participated in a workshop with
the DG Kostas Kotsis on 15.09.2003. The DG was impressed by the full Rotary
representation in Bourgas with Rotary, Rotaract and Interact Clubs as well as by
presence of ladies in the Rotary Club. He gave an excellent evaluation of the
Club and pointed it as one of the best Clubs in D 2480. An article with pictures
about this event was prepared by Club secretary Atanas Sirekov and published in
Rotary Bulgaria magazine. Articles were published in 2 local newspapers.
9. The object Reconstruction of the second floor of Alexander Georgiev -
Kodzhakafaliyata Orphanage was inaugurated festively. Herewith the next to the
last stage of the Club Project about the Orphanage was finished. It should be
noticed that this project has a big social effect because fully renewed rooms
were spent to the orphans. By the inauguration representatives of all media were
invited. Local radio and TV stations broadcasted reportages. 4 regional
newspapers published articles with pictures. An article has been prepared by
Club secretary Atanas Sirekov and published in Rotary Bulgaria magazine.
10. 12 Paul Harris Fellow recognitions were handed by Rotary Club Bourgas, 5 of
them multiple.
11. All Club members were subscribed to Rotary Bulgaria magazine.
12. The room for regular weekly meetings was renovated and designed with
Rotarian symbols and special cupboard for Rotary attributes and recognitions.
This way the meetings room got a superb nice and suitable look.
13. All Club members received: information materials package, containing the
Rotary International Manual of procedures, "Opportunities for service in 2003/04
Rotary year", Club program and budget for the current year; copies of Rotary
Club Bourgas and bylaws, Rotary ID cards and visiting-cards.
14. 11 new members were accepted.
15. Rotary and Rotaract Clubs Bourgas was co-organizers of Rotaract District
Assembly what took place form 3. to 5. October in Slanchev Bryag and had a great
success.
16. The Interact responsible Rotarian Toni Kostova organizes successfully the
Interactors' meetings. A suitable room for the meetings was assured.
17. RC President Rumen Angelov has visited Rotaract Club meetings regularly. A
new and better room for the meetings was assured.
18. Club assembly took place as planned and the new Board for 2004/05 Rotary
year was elected.
19. The Financial commission made a review of Club financial documents, prepared
a financial report and presented it to the Club. The Club approved this report.
20. First in it's history the Club applies for the Presidential citation.
21. On 23. February festively and in presence of guests and journalists the 99.
anniversary of Rotary and the World Understanding and Peace Day were celebrated.
ADG Krasimir Ganchev delivered a lecture about Rotary and information about the
anniversary was published in 3 newspapers.
22. In April 2004 the Club magazine was published.
23. Rotary Club Bourgas members actively participated in the RC Bourgas-Primorie
charter ceremony.
24. The Rotary year 2003/04 would be finished with a festive meeting on
28.06.2004.
II. Community service
1. Continuing the realization of the common activities with RC Lekkerkerk -
Netherlands, Stade - Germany and other Clubs in those countries to realize the
current stage of reconstruction of "Alexander Georgiev - Kodzhakafaliyata"
Orphanage in Bourgas in the amount of 51 000 Еuro. The stage was finished and
the object was inaugurated (see part I, point 9). We are looking for ways to
finance the last part of the project - reconstruction of the sports hall.
2. In development is project about House "Nadezhda" - Bourgas. The
administrative procedure to obtain design permission was finished. Submitted
were all needed documents, the designer was chosen and the design process
started. The architectural design is a donation from arh. Konstantin Kotsev,
Past President of RC Bourgas.
3. In January 2004 together with Rotary Club Exmouth, England the Computers for
education project was realized. The project included delivery and installation
of 12 computers for St. Kliment Ochridski School in Bourgas.
4. We continue the work on the "Chorelov" program - receiving and distributing
of medical goods given by Rotary Clubs in France for the hospitals in the region
by gathering information about medicaments needed by local hospitals.
5. A common project with "Center for social rehabilitation" - Bourgas is in
preparation.
6. In July the Club members visited the promotion of the book "I have chosen the
freedom" by Dr. Vassil Valkov.
7. Club members participated in the festivities on Petrova niva in connection
with 100. Years anniversary of Ilinden - Preobrazhenie rising. A wreath was laid
and with an amount the Club became a co-sponsor of the event.
8. In November Svetoslav Donev, Club responsible for TRF represented the lecture
"Rotary Foundation potential" to the Club.
9. The RC Bourgas Rotarians took part actively in the Rotary Foundation Seminar,
organized on 29.11.2003 in Sliven. The TRF Club responsible Svetoslav Donev
represented the lecture "Rotary Foundation potential" to all seminar
participants.
10. In October Club President Rumen Angelov represented the lecture
"Participation of Rotarians in politic".
11. In February 2004 thanks to the initiative of Rotarian Stefan Tsintsarski
1300 sets of anti-flue vaccine was assured for the social houses in Bourgas and
the region.
12. In May 2004 by the aid of Christine Dagwell a new personal computer in the
amount of 1000 Leva was assured. It was granted to the widowed invalid Radka
Petrova and her two children in school age.
13. The aid assured by Christine Dagwell and RC Hull, England, dedicated to
Nadezhda House - Bourgas, Tsveta and Anka Varbanovi Old people's House -
Bourgas, Old people's House - Goritsa and Social professional school - Bata
village in the amount of 1750 kg. has been expected.
III. International Service
1. Deeper contacts to Rotary Club Stade - Germany. In August Rotary Club Bourgas
was visited by representative group of this Club. Bourgas Rotarians were invited
to participate in the festivities in connection with 50-th anniversary of Rotary
Club Stade establishing. A club twinning is in discussion now.
2. Continuing of contacts with RC Bad Kissingen, Germany.
3. The fellows were represented following lectures: "Tenerife - history and
present", "Munich and surroundings", "Kabul - history and present" by Petko
Yovchev, "Stade and surroundings - Das alte Land" by Atanas Sirekov, "Cappadocia
- culture, history, religion" by Stefan Koradov, "The sights of Tampere", "Heidelberg
- history and present" by Gerhard Bentzien.
4. Guests during regular monthly meetings were Rotarians from RC Kiev - Center,
Stockholm - Hasselby, Harare - Avondale, etc.
5. Procedure papers for twinning with Rotary Club Kyrklareli, Turkey were
prepared.
6. The Board took decision to start twinning procedure with RC Kavala, Greece,
and sponsor club of RC Bourgas.
7. A contribution of 3240 USD was made to the Annual Programs Fund of The Rotary
Foundation.
8. Contacts with RC Hull, England go deeper and a representative group to visit
Bourgas is expected.
9. In May 2004 Christine Dagwell visited RC Bourgas. During this visit contacts
to Bourgas Municipality and Regional Social Affairs Office were established.
During the official meetings different kinds and needs of aid for social houses
in the region were discussed.
IV. Vocational Service
1. A program and activities plan for the Vocational Service Month (October) was
prepared.
2. Following professional achievements of Club members were marked off
festively: election of Petko Yovchev for Chairman of Architect's chamber in
Bulgaria, appointment of Kalin Barzov for Director "Civil aviation" in Ministry
of transport and communications, election of Atanas Sirekov for "IT manager
2003" by Computerworld-Bulgaria.
3. The fellows were represented following lectures: "E-government" by Atanas
Sirekov, "Potential of Agriculture State Fund and SAPARD program" by Hussein
Jamil, "Counteraction to corruption in the Ministry of Internal Affairs" by
David Wostelholme.
V. Family of Rotary
1. Organization of charity performance "Classic and Magic" by Eike Schmidt and
Mira Iskarova, what was held on 29.09.2003.
2. A project with "Center for social rehabilitation" - Bourgas and "Nadezhda"
House has been prepared together with Community service Committee.
3. A program to increase the interest of Rotarian's families' members to Rotary
has been prepared.
4. The possibilities to include non-Rotarian family members (e.g., spouses,
adult children, widows) in Club charity actions have been examined.
5. Participation in Christmas party preparation.
6. Organizing a memorial meeting for Stefan Valchev, Past President of RC
Bourgas, and deceased 1 year ago.
7. Regular marking off and congratulating fellows with their birthdays and name
days as well as by special family events.
8. An initiative group of Rotarian spouses organized on 14.04.2004 a Spring
charity cocktail in favor of Nadezhda House - Bourgas.
